Love Has No Boundaries: Empowering Interabled Couples
In 2018, I walked into Pizza Hut not knowing my life was about to change forever. That’s where I met Patrick, my fiancé, my partner, and my greatest support. It was right before the biggest challenge of my life: my diagnosis with Friedreichs Ataxia.
July 5th, 2019, I was diagnosed with FA, August 20th, Patrick asked me to be his girlfriend. He has been here through it all. From the fear and uncertainty of a new diagnosis to the day-to-day reality of making life more accessible, he’s never once wavered. He’s helped me navigate physical changes with patience and love, and he’s been my emotional rock when I’ve needed it most. He has never treated me differently and has always made sure I get to do all the things I want and live my life to the fullest.
Accessibility isn’t just about ramps and tools, it’s about creating a life together where I feel seen, valued, and supported. Patrick has done that for me every step of the way.
He’s adapted right alongside me, making sure I never feel like I’m facing these challenges alone. From proposing to me in front of the Empire State Building, advocating with me in Washington D.C. to discovering all New England with each other.
Looking back, I can see how that ordinary day at Pizza Hut turned into the extraordinary beginning of our love story. Patrick is proof that love can carry you through anything, and I’m so grateful that he’s mine.
I would strongly advise to not be afraid to get in a relationship but make sure that they’re 100% all in because true love is something both should feel, and everyone deserves it!
